PhD, Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (IMH 8400)

Amena graduated with my AAS in Physical Therapy from NYU in 2000. She has been employed at Florida Hospital for the past 15 years and is a certified lymphedema therapist and a wound care specialist.  Amena has pursued a BS degree in Psychology from Rollins College, then pursued a Masters of Science degree in Counseling from Barry University. Currently, Amena is pursuing a Ph.D in Depth Psychotherapy with an emphasis in Psychoanalysis. Her two careers have merged and it is from her work with patients of breast cancer and lymphedema that the topic for her dissertation emerged – “Healing Shadow – Sexual Dysfunction after the Dismemberment of a Mastectomy”  Amena loves to work with her hands and she knows how important it is to heal the whole body through psychotherapy and therapeutic touch. She is also trained in Myofascial Release Techniques and plans to incorporate this in to her practice to heal trauma.
